Voluntary ServicesVolunteers have always been a very important part of Isabel Hospice. They help to provide the highest standard of care and support for the patients. Volunteers are welcomed from all walks of life and all ages between 17 and 75! They have a selection interview and they are required to attend a Volunteer Induction Course. After further discusssion with the Voluntary Service Co-ordinator, the volunteers experience working in all areas of Isabel Hospice before agreeing on one or more in which to become involved. Community Volunteeres generally visit one patient at a time and work closely with Community Macmillan Nurse or Day Hospice providing friendship and emotional support. The tasks they undertake depend upon particular needs and may include: help with shopping; help at mealtimes; sitting at home with a patient; taking a patient out. Volunteers in the In-Patient Unit work on the reception desk or in the bedrooms. Those on reception welcome visitors to the unit and deal with telephone calls andenquiries. The bedroom volunteers help the patients and nurses with any non-nursing tasks. Volunteers support the In-Patient unit every day of the year! Volunteers in the Day Hospice work closely with the staff to give physical help and emotional support to patients. Volunteers at Isabel Hospice help in many ways with patient transport, fund raising, working in the hospice shops, gardening, flower arranging and cake making. Volunteers in the Family Support team receive additional training and help to support and encourage the bereaved clients of Isabel Hospice. If you would like further information call the Voluntary Service Co-ordinator on: 01707 330686.
